What Do You Expect?

Very much "tongue in cheek" stuff, very quickly knocked together using Adobe Audition.
Virtually no processing on this, and minimal mixing.
I'll probably end up re-doing most of this, but would like to know what people think.
:)

Weight Of Wrong

OK, This is the last one I'll put up for a while. I fear I'm pissing people off :P I'm gunna concentrate on commenting on more people's work. I've just been so busy.

VERSE 1

Oh shit,
Guess I got the wrong end of the stick,
I guess you thought your magic tricks would,
Fool me more than this.

But I thought you'd know,
I'm just too old for magic shows

CHORUS

Well I guess I'm gunna go,
I hope you hold onto your pride,
'Cause it won't be long,
'Till the weight of your wrong,
Leaves it the only thing in your life.

Well I know it hurts now baby,
But you just gotta let it slide.

VERSE 2

Oh fuck,
Seems you'ce really screwed things up,
Or didn't I squint hard enough,
To keep you in my view?

And you,
Flew.

Nevermind.

CHORUS

Well I guess I'm gunna go,
I hope you hold onto your pride,
'Cause it won't be long,
'Till the weight of your wrong,
Leaves it the only thing in your life.

Well I know it hurts now baby,
But you just gotta let it slide.

Dont Judge Him - early

Hi guys

This is the latest track from me and James. It is called Don't Judge Him, and this is an early mastered version. I know the bass is a bit distorted but it was an artistic choice as part of a really 'in your face sound' so please give any comments you can.

Comments about composition / performance / production are as always valued.

Thanks everyone

Lock Down, Move On [old c version]

So, some of the things mentioned in the last version's thread were this:
-the guitar was a little messy (Jiminuk)
-i was laying down some perfect notes, but then was slapping out some really really bad ones too, since I was a bit sick and couldn't really reach certain pitches. (Dark)
-the music was dominating the vocal lines at points, but nobody else seems to have thought so (me)
-the harmony double-tracking was liked better than the other "fill in the breath gaps" doubling (Dark)
-my 1st chorus transition into the second verse was _really_ sloppy, and so Kobeshi made a suggestion for fixing it.
-a full band arrangement would be nice (WritersBlock)

well, i cleaned up the guitar a bit, though some of you may think it's still a little messy. I kind of like it the way it is at the moment, but that might be just me. I hit some of those notes better, Dark-- I hope you notice :) I changed the mix volume to my liking. tell me what you think of the double vocal lines-- i didn't change anything about them really. the transition is a bit better and not so sharp. it may not be perfect, but it's approaching what i envisioned. still working on that full band arrangement idea :) i'll let you know if there's any progress made there.

so, here's the [c] cut, which is not really different from what the {b} version in length or content. It's mainly just cleaner.

personally, i want to redo the "than you" part at the ends of the chorusesesses, because i don't think they're quite matching the voal tone of the song. i'll keep the part, but i'll have to modulate it up a bit next time i try. minor stuff.

Here are the lyrics, or.. at least as many as are recorded in this version:

Lock Down, Move On

Tonight, I'll be your One
You're right--this could be fun
Pack up your things,
we're going out
The sun sets in an hour
In memory of all the ones who tried,
but didn't make it
We are headed forwards
or we'll die trying

Lock down-- we're moving on
I haven't been trying so much, but it's hard to forget you
No, I haven't been trying so much, it's hard to forget you
We'll move, alone
We could drive away,
and I could see the sun light up your hair
We could ride away
We could see the cities,
all lit up like they're something more special than you

Round two:
What do you say to a flight, a winter getaway?
Pack up your things,
we'll see the world
This town sleeps in an hour
In memory of all the things we've tried,
that didn't work out
We are headed forwards
or we'll die trying

Lock down-- we're moving on
Bet you wouldn't leave me if I told you about the dreams I have
No, I bet you wouldn't leave me if I told you--
if I told you about the dreams I have
We could drive away,
and I could see the sun light up your hair
We could ride away
We could see the cities,
all lit up like they're something more special than you

Bound

Vocals peak like mad (dang mic). It's a song about being in a relationship for so long that you're utterly trapped. Hence "We are not one, we are bound". Recorded in Logic Express, one acoustic DI'ed and treated in Guitar Rig in Garage Band. Vocals through the built-in mic on the laptop, that's why they peak so badly. Must've driven the neighbours mad recording this in the kitchen. Drums were just a loop. Bass is the acoustic with an Oktaver to drop the pitch.

But, my God, do I love Guitar Rig :) Don't forget to vote!

Lyrics:

Well if you showed me the way
You know it wouldn't have hurt
If I'd just buried my pride
and followed my heart
reined in my mouth and not given so much away
I know I'd have more cards left to play

If on the 4th of july it all should ignite
And all those tiny grievances should run in the light
We'll give them life of their own
And a birthday to stay drunk on
And a thousand excuses to walk home alone

We are not one, for we are bound
to fall on down

Well if you showed me a way I'd try not to bite you
It's been kind of hard to get to like you
I'm not gonna break and run
but I've got ways and means
So if it goes any further you've got yourself to blame

We are not one, for we are bound
to fall on down

For Duane

This is my tribute to Duane Allman. Listening to him I realized that all the rules I had learned so far could be broken. He certainly wasn't the first to use alternate tunings, picking techniques and a slide, but he was the one who opened these doors for me.
I wrote this song to be a prelude to Duane Allman's composition "Little Martha", and you can hear the first couple bars of it as the tune fades. I left it there just to show "For Duane" in the context for which it was intended. Hope that's within the rules.

well...here's another one of my latest recordings...still in it's early stages...vox are for guide only...nothing is eq'd except the drums (which are awesome btw!) Let me know what you think!

Lyrics:

Is there something that you believe in?
Does it handle your situation?
And we all have got to find some peace of mind.
And we all have got to find some peace of mind.

Chorus
Why wait for something
You can fall back on?
Why stay when there’s a perfectly good road
That you can travel down?
When deep inside you know

That you’re the one who’s in control
You’re the one in control
You’re the one in control

Verse 2
Can you answer every tough question?
Or do you spin out in all directions?
And we all have got to find our way around.
And we all have got to find our way around.

Repeat Chorus

Verse 3
What do you see looking back from your mirror?
Do you find a friend, a trusted counsellor?
And we all have got to find a voice that we can trust.
And we all have got to find a voice that we can trust.

I cannot have you

This came out of my frustration of trying to write a happy, fast song and failing. So, I strummed two chords very slowly over and over until I got my frustrations out, and then said, "what the heck, I'll make these two chords into a song"

30 minutes later I have this.

Lyrics:
I dreamt of you last night
The third time all this week
You seem find me
In my sleep
But I can’t have you

I remember
all the times that were before
You looked across the room
And you know that I was sure
I cannot have you girl

You know you’re an angel
Even though you think you’re not
I’ve got your number
Yet I know my words are shot
I cannot have you girl

Cannot have you

etc...

American

This is my first (individual) song in which I tried to play the instruments live. I came up with a simply groove and then made up words in a span of about 45 minutes. I only did one take per instrument, so there are several mistakes, but I think It came out alright for the experiment that it was.

The guitar is actually my keyboard with a distortion pedal and a bass amp, the drums are synthesized, and the bass is a heavily filtered midi instrument.

Heavily inspired by the band Bush

Lyrics:
Here I sit, on the top of the world
You scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours too
I’m the biggest kid in the playground
You speak some up, I’ll push you down
It’s my world, there’s no future
Besides what I want
You get the picture?

Your petrodollar cycles around
It floats me up
It puts you down
But I don’t care
I never will
Until the end
Forever still

You Fuel me
I take the cash
Win win for me
Lose lose for you
You disagree
I kick you down
After all,
Your’e just a clown

As I get rich,
You stay poor
Its good for me
Cause I want more
Pull the veil
Oer your eyes
And take a hint
From my surprise
Youll never know
And its alright
Cause I’m the king
And you’re the clown
American
I am found

Unchain Me

This is a song I wrote while I was with a band called Once a Traitor. This recording was actually finished after I left. Here are the lyrics.

Unchain Me

I feel the strain of all the faces I must maintain
Hi, nice to meet you but you're in my space
Another mask for me to keep in place
The bottoms out and my hold is slipping

I can't contain a million stories, must I explain
The weight is growing, what was my name
The life I sold you is incomplete
The bottoms out and the soul is missing

Unchain me

I'm on my feet, the door is open but I can't leave
I'm shackled down by this plastic smile
A pretty face that's built to deceive
I've bottomed out in this painted prison

Unchain me

I'm fallen, broken, breathless
My struggle leaves me helpless
I'm here again, I'm here again
I bring a life in shambles and you raise this holy temple
On my covered sin, my covered sin

Unchain me

I don't care...

The music is mine, the lyrics belong to the lead singer.I am the guitar player, the name of the band is "Tentatii". We used to play pop-rock for a long time and this was our first alternative song because of a request of a producer, and it was successful.

Lyrics are:

1)
Today I waited for a phone again,
I waited laid down on my bed,
I waited but it didn't ring...

Now I think I know what happened,
You met somebody else,
Much better,stronger man...

Bridge:
I would want to fly away to the place you are,
To be one single body, to read my eyes...
Do you think you can?

Chorus:
My life is on the line, but I just don;t care at all...
My life is on the line, I would like to turn back,
My life is on the line, but I just don;t care at all...,
My life is on the line, only I know if I still resist...

2)
I tried to understand you,
I stopped to believe you,
The answer comes innocently...

You met somebody else,
Oneday, somewhere,
The answer comes with indifference...

Bridge, Chorus

The end:
Yes, yes, yes...

Enjoy it!
